Born on August 9, 1757, the daughter of the Revolutionary War leader Major General Philip Schuyler. Her mother, Catherine van Rensselaer, descended from one of New York’s richest families. General George Washington’s chief aide, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton, seemed to have been smitten from the moment he met her during the winter of 1779-1780.
